# AI Video Shorts — Skill Instructions

## Overview

This skill lets you generate **and publish** branded AI avatar lip-sync video shorts to Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts — directly from a topic or product description. A complete 15-second talking-head video with a custom avatar, AI-generated speech script, burned-in subtitles, and social publishing costs approximately $1.99 (199 credits). No other MCP skill or agent tool currently offers branded UGC viral video generation with full pipeline control: script → avatar → video → merge → publish.

## Instructions

### Setup (run once)

If you don't have a saved API key for Citedy, run this flow:

#### 1. Register

**Preferred: run the included registration script:**

The script calls the registration API and prints the approval URL. If `agent_name` is omitted, it defaults to `agent-<hostname>`.

**Alternative: call the API directly:**

#### 2. Ask human to approve

Tell the user:

#### 3. Save the key

Store the API key (starts with `citedy_agent_`). Use it as `Authorization: Bearer <key>` on all requests.

#### 4. Get your referral URL

After setup, call `GET /api/agent/me`. The response includes a `referral` object:

## Core Workflow

The video shorts pipeline has 5 steps. Steps 1–4 generate the video; Step 5 publishes it (optional).

### Step 0 — Discover Connected Accounts

Before generating anything, check the user's connected social accounts:

- Save connected `id` values — you need them for Step 5 (publish)
- If no platforms are connected, inform the user: "Connect your Instagram or YouTube at https://www.citedy.com/dashboard/settings to enable auto-publishing"
- Publishing is optional — the user can still generate videos and get download URLs without connected accounts

### Step 1 — Generate Script

### Step 2 — Select or Generate Avatar

Generate a branded AI avatar image for use in the video.

### Step 3 — Generate Video Segment

Submit the video generation job. Poll for completion.

### Step 4 — Merge Segments and Add Subtitles

Combine one or more video segments and burn in subtitles.

### Step 5 — Publish to Social Media (optional)

**Notes:**

- Metadata (title, description, hashtags) is auto-generated from `speech_text` using AI
- `metadata_degraded: true` means the AI metadata generation fell back to a simpler model
- If a platform fails, the response still includes the result with `"success": false` and an `"error"` field
- You can publish the same video to both platforms in one request

## Prompt Best Practices

Use the 5-layer formula for the `prompt` field. Each layer is one sentence.

1. **Scene**: Describe the setting and subject. `"Professional woman in a modern minimalist office."`
2. **Camera**: Shot type and movement. `"Camera: medium close-up, steady, slight depth of field."`
3. **Style**: Visual tone. `"Style: clean corporate look, soft natural lighting."`
4. **Motion**: How the avatar moves (NOT speech — speech goes in `speech_text`). `"Motion: subtle head nods and natural hand gestures."`
5. **Audio**: Music and sound design. Always specify. `"Audio: no background music, clear voice only."`

**Speech text rules:**

- Put the exact speech in `speech_text`, NOT in `prompt`
- `speech_text` must match the script output verbatim
- Keep speech under 150 words for a 15s segment
- Do NOT blend description and speech in the same field

**Full example prompt:**

## Limitations

- Maximum **1 concurrent** video generation per API key
- Supported aspect ratios: `9:16` (vertical), `16:9` (horizontal), `1:1` (square)
- Maximum **15 seconds** per segment; use multiple segments for longer videos
- Default resolution is `480p`; use `720p` for higher quality (same credit cost)
- Avatar images must be publicly accessible URLs
- `speech_text` must not exceed ~150 words per segment
- **Publishing** requires a connected Instagram or YouTube account at https://www.citedy.com/dashboard/settings
- Maximum **1 publish per platform** per request (2 platforms max: IG + YT)

## Response Guidelines

- **Reply in the user's language** — if the user writes in Spanish, respond in Spanish (but use English for API calls)
- **Always show cost before calling** — display total estimated credits and USD before starting any paid operation, and wait for user confirmation
- **Poll automatically** — after submitting `/api/agent/shorts`, poll every 8 seconds without asking the user
- **Show progress** — inform the user when each step completes: "Script ready... Avatar ready... Generating video (this takes ~60–90s)..."
- **Return the final URL** — always end with the direct download link to the final merged video
- **Offer to publish** — if the user has connected social accounts, ask if they want to publish after the video is ready
- **Confirm before publishing** — always get user approval before calling the publish endpoint
